Klingon Word of the Day for Saturday, April 26, 2025

Klingon word: HuQ'am
Part of speech: noun
Definition: self-identified gender
Source: qep'a' 29 [2022]
_______________________________________________

AFAIK not used in a sentence.

(qep'a' 2022): "identity (this might different from the anatomical sex of a being, and refers to the gender that person identifies with)"

(qep'a' 2022 REQUEST): "The category of classification that distinguishes {be'} and {loD} and potentially others; perhaps several terms, depending on what criteria the distinction is based on."

SEE:
ghaQpey'	sex (biological) (n) (qep'a' 2022)
(qep'a' 2022): biological [this means how a body is originally constructed; male, female, or whatever type of biological sex the species has]

(non-canon explanation from qurgh in a private message to Lieven, 7/29/2022): {HuQ'am} is a noun that refers to gender as identity, while {ghaQpey'} is a noun that refers to sex from a biological point of view. Gender, in English, now refers to a what a person self identifies as, while sex refers to a person's unchosen biological status. A person might have female sex organs, but identify as male. That person's {ghaQpey'} would be female, while their {HuQ'am} would be male.
