Klingon word: tIq
Part of speech: noun
Definition: heart
_______________________________________________

tIqDaq HoSna' tu'lu'
Real power is in the heart. (TKW)
[(TKW 23): In this phrase, the heart stands for one's spirit or principles. Cf. TNG "Heart of Glory"]

tIqlIj Da'angnIS
You must show your heart. (PK)

tIqwIj Sa'angnIS
I must show you [plural] my heart.
[(msn.onstage.startrek.expert.Okrand 6/29/1997)": For example, someone undergoing the Rite of Ascension says {tIqwIj Sa'angnIS} "I must show you [plural] my heart". The pronominal prefix in this phrase is {Sa-}, which means "I [do something to] all of you" ... but when there's already an object (in this case, {tIqwIj} "my heart"), the `object' of the prefix is interpreted as the indirect object, so Sa- means "I [do something to] it for you" or the like."]

(KGT 87): Large animals are usually chopped into pieces, sometimes with attention paid to which piece is which (thus a {tIq} [heart] might be served as a dish in its own right)...

(KCD re {targh tIq} "heart of targ"): even though the dish may be served with the hearts of more than one targ, the plural {tIqmey} is never used in the name of the dish.

CULTURAL NOTES:
Klingons have an eight-chambered heart. (TNG "Ethics") Sometimes this is referred to as having two hearts. (PB) "One can probably reconcile these two statements by suggesting that the Klingon heart is divided into two attached parts with four chambers each, and that it's possible for one to function if the other is destroyed. Then, it'd be a matter of interpretation if a Klingon has one heart or two. Similar to our lungs, in a way." (Felix, 2/10/2014)

"The betleH wielded by the lord of a great house is called an Honor Blade and is considered the repository of the heart and soul of his or her entire clan." (KLS)

TREK NOTES:
“Some advice from a warrior in the bedchamber as well as the battlefield. At times like these you must treat your heart as the enemy so you won't be distracted in battle.” (Gen. Korok to Seven, VOY “Unimatrix Zero Pt. II”)

PUN: "tick" or "ticker"?
