*-'e'* has exactly the meaning you're looking for. In English, the 
/himself/ is called an emphatic pronoun or an intensive pronoun, and it 
has the effect of emphasizing that its antecedent noun is exclusive. 
Gowron himself will pilot the ship, not anyone else.
