If I'm not mistaken, this definition isn't actually canonical, but rather an extrapolation from {puyjaq} = "nova".

It's not an unreasonable extrapolation, but it is worth noting that novae and supernovae - as definted today - have very different mechanisms, so it isn't entirely safe to assume that Klingons would use the same stem to refer to them.
