I read his post as saying that the canonical examples we have were more 
or less fixed expressions, and that we can't create general rules from 
fixed expressions, because fixed expressions might or might not follow 
the rules of grammar. I don't agree with the certainty with which he 
claims that these expressions are fossilized, and I disagree with his 
statement that looking further into the matter is misguided, but I 
didn't see any prohibitions in what he said.
