Irrelevant. The whole issue here is deixis, in which you don't have to 
overtly specify such things. He also didn't say /It is getting closer to 
us,/ which is clearly meant to be a way this sentence could be used, 
even if the /to us/ remains unstated. Okrand's translations are rarely 
so formulaic, especially all the way back to the carefree days of TKD.
