Oh, when you wrote "sounds less important" you *literally* meant "*sounds*
less important".

I guess that, to someone who doesn't know their meaning, "Lieutenant
Commander" might *sound* a lot more impressive than "Captain". Obviously
there are many counterexamples to "the more syllables the better".

Fortunately, all nine ranks of officers in Klingon are monosyllabic.
