[tlhIngan Hol] Klingon Word of the Day: 'otlh poH

It's worth noting that the Planck time isn't really a physically significant quantity, but rather a convenient rough estimate of the time scale at which quantum gravitational effects are likely to be significant (in much the same way that 0.1c is commonly used as a rule of thumb for when relativistic effects become significant).

The definition,

t_P = sqrt(G * hbar * c^-5)

is the only way to multiply power of G, hbar and c in a way that tields units of time, unique down to a multiplicative constant. For example, one could equally well substitute hbar with h = 2π*hbar, which would then increase the value of t_P by a factor sqrt(2π).

The values chosen are by no means arbitrary (they relate meaningful quantities of physics in a very simple way), so it's not inconceivable that Klingons (or the Hur'q, if they got it from them) would arrive at the same value, but we shouldn't take it for granted, either.

So, it's probably best to think of an «'otlh poH» as a unit of time of roughly the same order of magnitude as the Planck time.
