Klingon word: ghIntaq
Part of speech: noun
Definition: Battle Spear, a specific kind of spear
Source: KGT
_______________________________________________

(KGT 64): A general term for spear is {naQjej}, but, of course, there are specific types of spears. The {ghIntaq}, for example, is a battle spear, though it is also used ceremonially. The shaft of a spear is the {tIH}; the sharp tip or spearhead is the {QIn}.

CULTURAL NOTES:
{qa'vaq} *qa'vak* is a traditional game involving throwing a ghIntaq spear through rolling a half-meter hoop {gho} that hones the skills of the hunt. (Seen in TNG "Birthright, Part II".)

A *gin'tak" is also an advisor so trusted he has been made part of the family. He wears a special ring, bearing the crest of the House he has pledged his life to defend. Worf said "K'mtar is {gin'tak} to the House of Mogh". (TNG "Firstborn") The elderly Tumek may have been {gin'tak} to the House of Kozak; he continued to work for his widow, Grilka. (DS9 "House of Quark")
