Klingon Word of the Day for Monday, April 02, 2018

Klingon word: jonSeH yaH
Part of speech: noun
Definition: engineering (location)
Source: qepHom 2017
_______________________________________________

(qepHom 2017 p.20): {jonta' pa'} for "engineering" is fine for referring to the room where the engine is (or engines are). If "engineering" (as in "Scotty, go down to Engineering and see what's happening there") means the place where the engines are controlled, that might be {jonSeH yaH}. {jonSeH} means something like "engine control" or "engine controlling". If the engines and the engine-control place are the same, {jonta' pa'} will work. ... The {jonSeH yaH} could be on the bridge or else somewhere else (in the room where the engines are or close to that).

LANGUAGE NOTES:
(TKD, intro to the word list): Sometimes one member of a set may be partially analyzed. For example, {jonta'} "engine" begins with {jon}, which is also found in {jonwI'} "engineer", and ends with {ta'}, which also occurs in {mIqta'} "machinery".

Also {jonpIn} "engineering officer" (n) (KGT).

"Engine room" would be a better translation for {jonta' pa'}. If the {jonSeH yaH} is a console on the bridge, then "engineering station" is better. Both are heard on Trek.

Other shipboard {yaHmey} "duty stations" we know of are {Qu' vu'wI' yaH} "Mission Ops" and {ropyaH} "infirmary". No doubt there are more -- the comm[unications] station and science station spring to mind.
