KGT 153:  This word originally referred only to the people known as the Hur'q, a race of humanoids from the Gamma Quadrant who developed a reputation as ruthless invaders who would attack other societies primarily for the purpose of robbery, stealing whatever they could and destroying the rest. The Hur'q invaded the Klingon homeworld some 1,000 years ago, and the loss to the Klingons was so disastrous, not to mention humiliating, that Klingon society became increasingly intolerant of other races. In time, the Hur'q came to symbolize any non-Klingon. Actually, in Klingon, a Hur'q person would be {Hur'Iqngan}, while {Hur'Iq} refers to Hur'q society or their homeland. This shorter word took on the slang meaning of "outsider, foreigner". The standard term for "foreigner, alien" is {nov}.

(naHQun, 11/08/2011):   In the novel "Left Hand of Destiny" it's stated that while most civilizations make cars -> airplanes -> spaceships; the Klingons did not. The Hur'q invaded before the Klingons invented cars. After the Hur'q left; the Klingons aimed for the stars; skipped over cars and went straight to airplanes and then spaceships." 

(Shane MiQogh 6/03/2006):  They call themselves *Kam'Jahtae* ... They adopted the name Hur'q from the Klingons during the invasion... they actually captured Kronos and then they retreated because they couldn't handle the Klingon insurgents... This is considered official to a few [fans] because this information was proposed to Paramount and they approved it, then it was released as a game for the Playstation called "Star Trek: Invasion". 
    The Hur'q ran, but didn't take the Kam'jahtae with them when they did. They left after they received the name [Hur'q]. The Kam'jahtae (currently known as the Hur'q) changed (for the storyline, evolved). Yes, those Kam'jahtae were a special group, but they are all one race (or were) ... The Kam'jahtae left a spine vessel on the planet R'karnura ... in the Titan System. Then they invaded Kronos, they received the name [Hur'q], and when they fled Kronos, they fled the Galaxy, or maybe universe. During this time they 'evolved', then the USS Sentinal woke up the sleeping Kam'jahtae who never knew of the conquest on Kronos, they kept the name Kam'jahtae. They never evolved. Kam'jahtae refers to the group that was left there, and the Hur'q before they evolved. The Hur'q eventually returned and that's really where "Star Trek: Invasion" starts. They attacked the Romulans and almost started a war, they aroused the Borg and the Federation kept captured ships of the Kam'jahtae. Probably why the Borg went to Earth.
