With regard to {weS}, the idea may be "lose [i.e. permanently]" versus {chIl} "lose [i.e. temporarily], misplace".  Which is why we refer to battle casualties in English as "losses" even when the bodies have been recovered.

It's more a Trek comment than {tlhIngan Hol}, but {buran} rang a bell:

This week's episode gives further evidence that {weS} means something along the lines of "lose", with the subject being the one who is bereft of something something:

  "We're losing time."

Later:

   "You keep talking about how you lost her because of the war ..."
