The same question comes in a famous painting:
{mon'a' Lisa?} "Does Lisa smile?"

Without paying attention to the other messages, I think that you can use 
{mon} for both situations and context makes clear if it's bad or not.

"the beautiful girls is smiling"

{mon verengan QIp}
"The stupid Ferengie is grinning"
